We’re Not Selling Widgets
Purchasing departments in corporations and government are used to buying “things.” Usually the things they buy can be quantified by size, type, or model number. Then various vendors can compete for who will make the least money on the sale. To the purchaser, the “thing” purchased will be the same no matter where it comes from, and the need will be met. But in buying creative services, there are no two identical “things” that can be quantified and bid.
Instead, buying from creative service providers like Advent Media is more like commissioning an artwork. No two artists interpret their subjects the same. (Imagine the Sistine Chapel if done by Picasso.) So the purchasing standards that work well for buying “things” fail miserably when trying to buy creative services by competitive bid. It becomes like an episode of Name That Tune. “I can build that show for $400…300…200…Build That Show.” Of course, low bid usually yields low quality.
So that’s where our commitment to work within any “reasonable budget” takes the pressure off both client and producer. By finding out what you have to spend up front, we can shape the expression of your ideas to match your budget – without creating unreasonable expectations, or making compromises after the fact. In 25 years, we’ve done a LOT of creative thinking to tell stories in ways that don’t break the bank.
Another creative solution involves project phasing. By separating tasks into separate contracts spread over time (or even fiscal years), we can achieve major projects within your organization's guidelines for unbid contracts - saving you time and money while providing you excellent service!
The MOST important factor in choosing a creative service provider is the relationship with the person who is going to actually do the creating. As a buyer, you need to get to know the individual, see the portfolio, check references, and become comfortable that this person can indeed tell your story…within your budget.
And that’s what makes Advent Media unique. In some production companies, you’ll work with the marketing staff to make the sale, then the whole project is handed off to people you never met who divide the tasks to other people you’ll never see. At Advent Media, we don't have a large staff. Just some very highly creative and well-equipped individuals who will walk with you every step of the way. Some clients prefer to use the larger production company, and that’s fine. But many find the personal approach to be far superior in capturing the essence of their story.
We look forward to working with you!
