Other "gray" or "black" projection screens may boast high contrast for home theaters or conference rooms, but they simply have a metallic gray coating that's very directional. They're brilliant as long as you're sitting in-line with the projector, but sit to the sides and "your mileage may vary." Some of these coated screens can also induce a color shift.

Supernova's 7-layer "optical" surface eliminates the hot spot and provides a nearly 180-degree viewing cone with no variation in brightness (08-85 surface) and no color shift. The micro prisms in the surface absorb ambient light from above or below, meaning you can position the Supernova screen directly under fluorescent lights, track lights or even stage lights and get high contrast. In this split-screen photo awash in ambient light, there are three different screen surfaces. In the center is traditional "Matte White" so you can see how much ambient light is on the picture. On the top is the Supernova 23-23 ultra-high contrast / high gain material which makes projection possible in the most adverse conditions by providing true color, high contrast, and a picture 230% brighter than matte white.  At the bottom is the Supernova ISF-certified 08-85 screen material, which features true colors, deep black levels, high contrast and extreme viewing angles. dnp Supernova Screens are compatible with active shutter 3D systems. The 7 layer micro prism surface diffuses polarized light, meaning Supernova will not work with passive polarized (Real-D) 3D systems.
